I’ve discovered a new website called “5 minutes for books” (thanks, mzzterry!) You can see it here. I love reading, and this website has some great motivators and group reading topics. On the fourth Tuesday of every month they ask, “What’s on your nightstand?” This month I have a quite a stack happening:
First of all, let me say that I didn’t have to clean my nightstand off before I took this photo.
Really, I didn’t.
Well…maybe a little…
The foundation of my reading is the Bible. I have been studying the book of John recently. In the same vein I am also reading Streams in the Desert, a book of short daily devotionals recommended to me by my friend, John West. It is actually an updated version that was originally published in 1925, updated with “today’s language.” The devotionals are simple and inspiring, and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
Emerging Systems for Managing Workplace Conflict is one of the textbooks for the class that I am taking.
Jane Eyre is a book that I have always had on my “to-read” list, but through the motivation of its being named as the book of the month for September at 5 minutes for books, I have now begun reading it in earnest. So far I have read the first ten chapters, and Jane has resigned as a teacher at Lowood and accepted a position as a governess. I am thoroughly enjoying this book and really can’t believe that I am reading it for the first time at age 45.
I have put Cry, the Beloved Country on the back burner until I have finished Jane Eyre.

Today is also Ten Things Tuesday, and here is the list of the things I am most thankful for today:
1. I am always the most thankful for my girls who bring continuous joy to my life!
2. I am thankful for September 22, the first day of fall!
3. I am thankful for the cooler overnight temperatures that allow me to sleep with my window open.
4. I am thankful for the opportunity to be working on my masters degree from ACU.
5. I am thankful for our senses of smell and taste. The roast that is cooking right now has filled our home with the most wonderful aroma and will make a delicious dinner of comfort food.
6. I am thankful for my sense of sight that allows me to enjoy reading all my favorite books.
7. I am thankful that our a/c has finally been truly repaired. I hope that I have learned patience while waiting all summer for it to be fixed.
8. I am thankful for friends who understand when I have to break a lunch date because the repairman is still repairing my a/c. Heather, we will “do dunch” on Thursday!
9. I am thankful that our family is healthy and able to enjoy the wonderful weather we have had the past week.
10. I am thankful that God gave us a sense of humor that allows us to laugh at ourselves instead of taking everything too seriously.
Be sure and stop by Mrs. Brownstone’s blog and link to your list!
Until later,

I love this time of year – the crisp cool mornings, the trees changing colors. Wonderful list — much to be thankful for.
Amen to all of our senses. And amen as well to our spiritual senses too!
You are like me with the books! I never read them one at a time it seems. I haven’t ever read Jane Eyre either, but you’ve got me by a few years!
Great thankful list! Glad you got your AC fixed. I like your #10. We are trying to teach our kids that concept!
Have a blessed week!
I am a bit further in Jane Eyre (don’t want to tell you so as to ruin what comes next). Read Cry The Beloved Country and enjoyed it.
Yea–I’m glad you found us, and I’m glad you’re joining us for Jane Eyre.
