It’s the fourth Tuesday of March (already?), and that means it’s time for the “What’s on Your Nightstand?” carnival at 5 Minutes for Books.

Looking at that stack is a little intimidating, but it isn’t as scary as it first appears. The bottom three are textbooks. This class is one of the most interesting and relevant that we’ve had so far. Graduation in August…yippee!
The recurring books are also there. My Bible, Streams in the Desert, A Year with C. S. Lewis and The Intellectual Devotional: American History. I’m reading the through Bible chronologically this year and just finished the Pentateuch. Job was in there, too, but wow…I forget how long it is.
And now for the newbies to the lineup:

Classics Bookclub’s read this month is Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days. I’ve never read this one, never even seen any of the movies, so I’m looking forward to it. A few months ago I saw Journey to the Center of the Earth
with Brendan Fraser. It was okay. Science fiction isn’t a genre I normally read, but I like adding more classics to my “to-read” list.
Stephen Lawhead’s Scarlet is the second book of his King Raven trilogy, a retelling of the Robin Hood story. I finished the first book, Hood, yesterday. You can read my review here. It was one of the best books I’ve read in several years. One of the most appealing aspects was the complete lack of profanity, sex or gratuitous violence. Just a very well-written, engrossing story. Highly, highly recommended!
This is the first month I’ve participated in the carnival in which I can say that I actually completed all the books that were on my nightstand last month. You can read my review of Les Misérables here. James Thurber’s My Life and Hard Times was delightful. It’s a short read…an hour or so. I haven’t read any Thurber in years, but I’m looking to add more of him to the list. The last one from February was a Star Trek: The Next Generation book entitled Imzadi. It was interesting but just not everything I had hoped it would be. You can read my review of this one here.
Click on over to 5 Minutes for Books where you can see lots of other nightstand lists and add your own.
Encourage one another,

Thanks for stopping by, Kipi! I like this carnival. Thanks for sharing your current reads. The Lawhead series looks especially interesting!
Congrats on finishing Les Mis!
Hood looks like a book I would enjoy. I think I’ll be adding this one to my wish list for an upcoming library visit.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Hey! You should totally post your Hood review at next week’s I Read It carnival. I finished hte book yesterday and I’m planning on linking up with that one! How cool that we were reading it at the same time and I’m envious you already have your hands on a copy of Scarlett! =) Fun, fun!
I love Streams In the Desert; it’s one I go back to periodically. And anything by CS Lewis makes me happy.
Looks like some great books! Enjoy.
A Year with C. S. Lewis sounds like a good way to go! Last month I read Through the Shadowlands, the story of Lewis & his wife Joy Davidman. It was pretty good.
Oooo… I loved Hood! I loved that book!!!
Scarlet is going onto my nightstand for next month’s reading.
Happy Reading.
I really enjoyed the Understanding Poverty book you’ve got at the bottom there. I had to read it for a class as well, but really was grateful I did. I’m reading through the Bible chronologically this year as well… it’s a nice goal and I’m enjoying reading stuff I don’t always read about (for the most part… I could do without the dividing up the land and such!).
Keep up the reading and thanks for sharing!
