Every month I joke about how fast time flies, but this month it’s more true than ever. I didn’t even realize that today was the last Tuesday and time for What’s on My Nightstand until I checked my blog feeds this morning. Yikes…got to get my list up! So here it is for August:
My chronological read through the Bible has me almost through the prophets. I finished Jeremiah last night and will finish the Old Testament by the end of September.
Continuing to read Streams in the Desert and The Intellectual Devotional: American History.
I am about half-way through The Killer Angels, a novel about the Battle of Gettysburg. Excellent book. It was the inspiration for the 1993 movie Gettysburg. I so wish I had read this before visiting the battlefield last year.
The Peacemaker was used as a text in the very first class I took for my master’s degree. I am rereading it now as I am working on a ladies’ Bible class where we are studying biblical peacemaking. Another excellent book. I didn’t post a review of it the first time I read it, but look for one this time.
Still trying to get to Prince Caspian. I’ll make it through the series sometime before the end of the year.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one that I’ve had a for a while but haven’t read so I was very glad that 5 Minutes for Books added it as their read for September. Hope I can get it read by next Tuesday.
The last book is Now and Forever by Ray Bradbury. I picked it up at Half-Price Books several month ago and have had it staring at me for a while begging to be read. Don’t know if I’ll get to it or not, but I’ve moved it up to the top of the pile.
August was not the most productive reading month for me. I read Rebecca for 5M4B’s Classics Bookclub and reviewed it here. Also read The Book of William which I thought was really interesting and reviewed here. Now that the kids are back in school I can hopefully do better in September.
Every last Tuesday of the month you can read a great list of lists at 5M4B and the “What’s on Your Nightstand” carnival. If you’ve never participated make this your first time!

I loved Prince Caspian. Here is mine
This looks like a great list. I read Guernsey a while back, but I need a little refresher before the book club. Hope you enjoy it!
I really liked Guernsey…I read it this summer while the kids were with their Nana and Papa and I had 2 free days…it’s a easy and nice read!!:)
Have you read The Uglies? Grace read it earlier this summer and I just read it this weekend…I’m curious how the rest of the series goes…
I did the same thing today as well. I didn’t realize it was the 4th Tuesday either until it popped into my “to do” list this morning. Anyway, your book list sound great. Have fun reading in Sept.
The Killer Angels is something I would be very interested in. I loved Gettysburg and want to go back.
Jennifer – I haven’t read The Uglies, but The Drummer has…in fact, I know she’s read the first three…maybe all four…and really liked them. I’m sure I need to read them, but there is just so much on the to-be-read pile that it will be a while before I get to them.
